Top Chicago hotels: our stay at the St Clair Hotel!

Wondering where to stay in Chicago? If you're looking for somewhere central and affordable, you'll find it at the St Clair Hotel!

During our recent trip to Chicago we were hosted by the St Clair Hotel for three nights. From the moment we walked through the door 'til the moment we checked out, we were so impressed. The team were an absolute delight and were ready to help with anything, whether it was more coffee for the room, explaining how to use the subway system or keeping our bags in storage after we'd checked out while we spent the day exploring museums. We don't take this for granted either - another hotel that we stayed in on the same trip couldn't have been less interested, were dismissive and rude multiple times when we needed something. The St Clair shows them how it should be done!

A warm welcome awaits at the St Clair Hotel, Chicago!

Our room was large and comfortable, with two enormous king size beds, a flat screen tv, desk and chair and a kitchenette - fridge, microwave and coffee machine. This was particularly useful as it meant we could bring home our left over deep dish pizza one night to have for lunch the next day, and store some cold beers for the end of a day of pavement pounding. Free WiFi is available in the room and the bathroom had a powerful walk in shower and a mirror with a bright ring light, perfect for doing makeup before a night on the town. Plus we've never had so many plug sockets in a room - ideal for charging our phones, kindles, cameras, powerbank...

Appreciating our left over pizza fridge...

Right off the Magnificent Mile, the city's famous shopping street, the St Clair's location is minutes away from many of Chicago's most popular attractions:

Navy Pier: 16 mins walk

The Wrigley Building and Chicago river walk: 8 mins walk

The observation deck at 360 Chicago: 9 mins walk

The Museum of Contemporary Art: 8 mins walk

The Chicago Theatre: 16 mins walk

The Cloudgate "bean": 20 mins walk

From the St Clair Hotel you're also only 8 minutes walk to Grand subway station which whisks you north to the Chicago History Museum, Lincoln Park Zoo, Wrigley Park baseball stadium and the iconic Blues venue, Kingston Mines. 15 minutes walk south over the river brings you to State/Lake station on the L train loop, where you can head to famous Chicago sights like the Willis Tower, the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum, out west to the United Center (home to the Chicago Bulls) and south to Bronzeville.

If you're flying to Chicago you can get to the St Clair Hotel from O'Hare Airport in about an hour using the blue and red subway lines, or it's about a 20 minute taxi ride.

We honestly couldn't recommend the St Clair Hotel more - from the friendly staff to the comfortable, bright and modern room, it was the perfect central base for us to explore Chicago from!
