A babymoon doesn't need to mean long flights, faraway beaches or complicated travel plans. Some of the most memorable pre-baby escapes are much closer to home, where slower travel, beautiful scenery and comfortable stays come together naturally.
England is full of destinations that are perfect for pressing pause before a new chapter begins. Think historic country estates, lakeside mornings, cosy countryside inns, spa hotels and peaceful coastal landscapes where the focus is less on seeing everything and more on enjoying time together.
Whether you’re looking for a romantic castle stay in Kent, gentle walks in the Lake District, village wandering in the Cotswolds, fresh sea air in Norfolk or a relaxing spa break in Derbyshire, these babymoon destinations offer the perfect balance of comfort, scenery and easy-going exploration.
Having travelled extensively during pregnancy ourselves, including our babymoon in Australia, we know that the right destination can make all the difference. Comfort, flexibility and choosing experiences that allow you to slow down become even more important when you’re travelling with a bump.
This guide shares some of the best places for a babymoon in England, chosen for their beautiful surroundings, walkability, relaxing atmosphere and suitability for a memorable couples’ getaway before your little one arrives.
What makes a good babymoon destination?
A good babymoon isn’t about ticking off all the top attractions or squeezing in as much sightseeing as possible (unless that's what you want it to be). It’s about slowing down, spending quality time together and enjoying those final months before your family grows.
The best babymoon destinations usually offer:
Short, scenic walks rather than demanding hikes
Comfortable accommodation with excellent food nearby
Easy access to towns, cafés and attractions
Beautiful surroundings without needing a packed itinerary
Plenty of opportunities to relax, unwind and enjoy time together
Planning a babymoon can feel exciting, but it’s completely normal to have questions about travelling while pregnant. If you’re planning your first trip with a bump, you might also enjoy our travelling while pregnant guides, covering everything from first (and third!) trimester travel and flying while pregnant to what we packed and how we adapted our adventures during pregnancy.
When is the best time to take a babymoon in England?
Many couples choose to take a babymoon during the second trimester, often between around 14 and 28 weeks, when morning sickness has often eased and energy levels may have improved. However, every pregnancy is different, so it’s important to choose a time that feels right for you and check with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns.
In England, spring and early autumn are particularly lovely for a babymoon, with comfortable temperatures, quieter attractions and beautiful countryside scenery.
With that in mind, here are some of our favourite babymoon destinations in England, each offering the perfect blend of comfort, beautiful scenery and opportunities to slow down together:
1. Hever Castle, Kent: Tudor history, gardens and a castle stay in England
Hever Castle feels almost purpose-built for a slow country escape. Set in the Kent countryside, it was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn and remains one of England’s most romantic historic estates.
The castle itself is impressive, but the real highlight is the surrounding gardens. Lakeside paths, rose gardens, Italian-style terraces and quiet woodland walks make it easy to spend an entire day moving slowly through the grounds. Everything is compact, accessible and designed for wandering rather than rushing.
What makes Hever especially special is that you can actually stay within the castle estate itself, making it one of the most unique babymoon stays in England. I stayed here on my 30th (an amazing birthday present from David for a self-confessed Tudor nerd) and it was unbelievably lovely.
Accommodation is split between the five-star luxury Bed and Breakfast rooms in the Astor Wing and the Anne Boleyn Wing, both set within an Edwardian wing attached to the castle and connected internally. There is also the five-star Gold-rated Medley Court holiday cottage, located on the estate for a more private stay while still being part of the castle grounds.
Guests staying overnight receive complimentary access to the Castle and Gardens, so there is no need to book tickets separately. It also means you can explore early in the morning or later in the evening, when the grounds are at their quietest.
For anyone searching for romantic castle stays in the UK, Hever is one of the most atmospheric and accessible options, combining Tudor history, beautiful gardens and an amazing overnight castle experience.
Kent’s surrounding countryside also makes it easy to combine a stay with gentle drives, afternoon tea stops and traditional country pubs nearby.

2. The Lake District: gentle landscapes and lakeside slow travel
The Lake District is one of England's most iconic national parks, but it also works beautifully as a slower, more restful escape. Think mornings beside the water, afternoons exploring small towns and evenings in cosy lakeside hotels.
Rather than focusing on challenging hikes, a Lake District babymoon is best enjoyed with lakeside walks, scenic boat trips and relaxed café stops in places like Windermere, Ambleside and Bowness. Many of the region's most famous views can be enjoyed without long walks, making it easy to experience its spectacular scenery without overdoing it.
One of the joys of the Lake District is that you don't have to climb the highest fells to appreciate its beauty. Gentle cruises across Windermere, lakeside picnics, scenic drives over dramatic passes and cosy cafés with mountain views all offer the chance to slow down and simply enjoy being together.
If you’re travelling by car, the Lake District also makes a beautiful stop on a longer UK road trip. Our guide to the best places to stop on a London to Edinburgh road trip via the M6 and Lake District shares some of our favourite viewpoints, villages and places to explore along the way.
Whether it's watching the morning mist drift across the lakes, enjoying afternoon tea with a view or simply curling up in a cosy hotel after a day of exploring, the Lake District is one of England's most romantic destinations for a scenic pre-baby minibreak.

3. Cambridge: historic colleges, riverside walks and a romantic city escape
Cambridge is a wonderful choice for couples looking for a babymoon with a little more culture, combining beautiful architecture, peaceful green spaces and plenty of opportunities to slow down. While it is famous for its university and historic colleges, the city itself has a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere, making it easy to explore at a gentle pace.
One of the joys of Cambridge is that many of its highlights are close together. Wander along the River Cam, admire the views across the college Backs, browse independent shops or stop for coffee in one of the city’s many cosy cafés. A leisurely punt along the river is a particularly memorable way to see the city, allowing someone else to do the work while you simply sit back and enjoy the scenery.
Beyond the famous university buildings, Cambridge offers plenty of quieter corners perfect for a slower escape. Explore the Botanic Garden, take a peaceful walk through the historic streets or enjoy afternoon tea surrounded by beautiful architecture. There is no pressure to pack in endless sightseeing; the city is best enjoyed by taking your time.
With excellent restaurants, charming boutique hotels and easy train connections from London and other major cities, Cambridge makes an ideal babymoon destination for couples wanting a romantic break without complicated travel.

4. The Cotswolds: villages, countryside and slow road trips
The Cotswolds are one of the easiest places in the UK to slow down. Honey-coloured stone villages, quiet country lanes and traditional market towns create a landscape designed for unhurried travel.
A typical visit might include wandering through Stow-on-the-Wold, enjoying riverside views in Bourton-on-the-Water and exploring Bibury’s famous Arlington Row (if you’re British, you might recognise these cottages from inside your passport).
Beyond the postcard-perfect villages, the Cotswolds is made for lingering. Browse independent bookshops, stop for afternoon tea in cosy cafés or spend an afternoon browsing farm shops filled with local produce. There’s no pressure to rush from one attraction to the next; simply enjoy exploring wherever the winding country lanes take you.
Many hotels also offer beautiful gardens, spa facilities and countryside views, making it easy to combine sightseeing with plenty of time to relax.

5. Norfolk: quiet coastline and wide-open skies
Norfolk offers one of the most peaceful coastal landscapes in England. With wide beaches, salt marshes and slow-paced coastal villages, it feels naturally suited to rest, fresh air and space.
North Norfolk is especially lovely for a babymoon, with places like Wells-next-the-Sea, Burnham Market and Blakeney offering gentle walks, harbour views and easy access to nature reserves. Seal spotting, beach walks and long lunches overlooking the water are all part of the rhythm here.
We love Norfolk. It's a destination where nothing feels rushed and everything feels close enough to explore at your own pace. It's also a wonderfully easy region to explore! Distances between the villages are short, making it simple to spend a few days discovering different corners of the coast without long drives. One morning might be spent wandering along Holkham Beach, while the afternoon is dedicated to browsing independent shops or enjoying fresh seafood overlooking the harbour.
If you're looking for a destination where fresh sea air, wildlife and slower days take centre stage, Norfolk is hard to beat. For a deeper look at the region, see our mini guide to visiting North Norfolk’s highlights.

6. Buxton, Derbyshire: spa heritage and gentle Peak District walks
Buxton has been attracting visitors seeking rest and relaxation for centuries. Famous for its natural thermal springs and elegant Georgian architecture, it offers a slower pace that feels perfectly suited to a UK babymoon.
At the heart of the town is the beautifully restored Buxton Crescent, one of Britain’s finest examples of Georgian architecture and home to a luxury spa hotel. Combining five-star luxury with a modern wellness spa, rooftop pool and peaceful relaxation areas, it makes an indulgent base for a few days away.
Are spa breaks suitable during pregnancy?
Many spa treatments and facilities can be enjoyed during pregnancy, but some treatments, hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms may not be recommended. Always check with the spa beforehand and follow advice from your midwife or healthcare provider.
Beyond the spa, Buxton is perfectly placed for exploring the Peak District at a gentler pace. Wander through the Pavilion Gardens, browse the independent cafés and shops, or enjoy short scenic walks at places like Monsal Head, Ladybower Reservoir or Dovedale, where spectacular views can often be enjoyed without tackling strenuous hikes.
With its blend of wellness, history and beautiful countryside, Buxton offers one of the UK's most relaxing babymoon destinations and is ideal for couples looking to unwind before their newest adventure begins.
